Position Overview:
An Physiology Assistant Professor in a medical college primary responsibility is to teach and educate medical students on various aspects of human physiology.
Your job description may include the following:
Teaching:
Conducting lectures, seminars, and practical sessions to undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, covering topics such as cell biology, systems physiology, neurophysiology, cardiovascular physiology, respiratory physiology, etc. You will be responsible for designing and delivering effective and engaging lectures, creating teaching materials, and assessing students' performance through examinations, assignments, and practical assessments.
Curriculum Development:
Collaborating with the department and college administration to develop and update the physiology curriculum, ensuring it aligns with the latest advancements in the field. This involves incorporating new teaching methodologies, integrating technology-based learning tools, and ensuring the curriculum meets the standards set by regulatory bodies.
Research:
Engaging in research activities related to physiology, which may involve conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and publishing research findings in scientific journals. You may also be involved in collaborative research projects with other faculty members or external research institutions.
Mentoring and Advising:
Providing guidance and mentorship to students in their academic pursuits, assisting them in selecting research projects, and offering career advice. You may also supervise postgraduate students in their research work and guide them through the process.
Administrative Duties:
Participating in departmental meetings, contributing to administrative tasks such as organizing conferences, workshops, and seminars, and participating in academic committees or faculty development programs. You may also be involved in evaluating and reviewing the performance of other faculty members or contributing to accreditation processes.
Continuous Learning:
Keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in the field of physiology through attending conferences, workshops, and professional development programs. It is important to stay informed about new research findings, emerging trends, and advancements in teaching methodologies.
Collaboration:
Collaborating with other faculty members within the department and across disciplines to promote interdisciplinary research and teaching. This may involve collaborating with clinicians, researchers, and educators from other specialties or departments within the medical college.
Qualifications and Requirements:
A medical degree (MBBS) or equivalent qualification recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
A postgraduate degree (MD) in Physiology or an equivalent degree from a recognized institution.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with students, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
