Job Description:

Patient Consultations: Pulmonologists see patients referred to them for various respiratory issues. They conduct detailed medical interviews, review patients' medical histories, and perform thorough physical examinations to assess their respiratory health.

Diagnostic Procedures: Pulmonologists order and interpret diagnostic tests to evaluate respiratory conditions. This may include pulmonary function tests, chest X-rays, computed tomography (CT) scans, bronchoscopy, sleep studies, and other specialized procedures.

Diagnosis and Treatment: Based on the patient's symptoms, medical history, and test results, pulmonologists make diagnoses and develop treatment plans. Treat conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, tuberculosis, lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis, and other respiratory disorders.

Prescribing Medications: Pulmonologists prescribe medications such as inhalers, bronchodilators, corticosteroids, antibiotics, and other respiratory drugs to manage patients' symptoms and improve their lung function.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation: Work with patients who have chronic lung conditions, providing guidance on lifestyle modifications, breathing exercises, and pulmonary rehabilitation programs to improve their quality of life.

Critical Care: Pulmonologists play a crucial role in managing patients in intensive care units (ICUs) who require respiratory support. Skilled in procedures such as intubation, mechanical ventilation, and managing acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).

Collaboration: Pulmonologists collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as primary care physicians, intensivists, radiologists, and oncologists, to provide comprehensive care for patients. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss complex cases and determine the best treatment approaches.

Follow-up Care: Pulmonologists provide ongoing care and monitoring for patients with chronic respiratory conditions. Track patients' progress, adjust treatment plans as needed, and provide education and support to help patients manage their conditions effectively.

Qualifications and Requirements:
Educational requirements:
Medical degree (MBBS) from a recognized institution.
Postgraduate degree (MD/DNB) in Pulmonology.
